Interested in blacksmithing and wondering where to start? Our Intro class is a great way to find out what blacksmithing is all about! We are a well kitted out studio, located in the heart of Melbourne... and... we are all about forging hot steel.

The Intro class offers a gentle introduction into the art of blacksmithing. Don't worry if you've never tried blacksmithing before, our experienced teacher will guide you every step of the way and you'll be safely instructed on making a uniquely forged item, which will be yours to keep.

You'll learn how to use a coke-fired forge, anvil, hammer & tongs and get to wear one of our funky leather aprons!
Bring a curious mind and a willingness to learn and we will take care of the rest.

If after your session, you find yourself wanting to extend your skills, you may want to explore our
other workshops we have on offer. We offer classes in steel sculpture and jewellery, enamelling, knifemaking and for those wanting to get a more in depth understanding of the art of blacksmithing, we also offer multi-day courses.

This workshop is suitable for everyone, whether you're looking for a fun activity to do with your kids (12 years old and above), your partner or are looking for a team-building activity. Our forge is available for private bookings for up to ten persons every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Simply contact us to arrange a suitable time and day for your visit.

Steve discovered the colourful world of blacksmithing in Belgium, during a midlife sabbatical. Upon return, with two big anvils and a legvice under his belt, he set up a forge in Footscray's picturesque Water's Edge Arts precinct. He offers a rare mix of passion, effervescent energy and a love of people, resulting in memorably experiences where everyone feels welcome!
In 2013, he initiated the Blacksmiths Festival, which is held biannually on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, and is now run by a team of volunteers. He also offers a well equipped space for members to come together and forge.
Steve has a degree in Earth Sciences, studied blacksmithing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, obtained a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and is currently completing a Certificate in Industrial Blacksmithing at TAFENSW.
